The nearest major airport to the conference site is the Roanoke Regional Airport (ROA). The Roanoke Regional Airport is approximately 40 miles from the conference site.

Airport-to-Conference Transportation
There are essentially four options for getting from the Roanoke Airport to the Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy: Airport Shuttle, SmartWay Bus, rental cars, and taxis.

SmartWay Bus
The SmartWay Bus is a commuter bus that services Roanoke (including the airport) and Blacksburg (home of the conference). The SmartWay Bus visits 4 locations in Roanoke and 4 locations in Blacksburg, and operates on a standard bus schedule. The SmartWay Bus stops at the Roanoke Airports 10 times daily, between 6:35 am and 7:05 pm. Note: The SmartWay Bus will then drop you off at the back of Squires Student Center (not the conference center), on the Virginia Tech campus, which is .50 to .75 miles from the conference center - a beautiful walk through the center of campus (map of walk). The cost of the SmartWay Bus is $4.00.

Rental Cars
The airport provides car rentals from Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and Alamo/National. Low rates available. Once at the airport, the car rental booths are downstairs across from baggage claim and next to the airport's main exit.

Taxis
Taxis are available from the airport to the conference center with rates varying from $70 to $90, one way. Once at the airport, the taxi counter is on the first floor, past the baggage claim, to the right, or you can call at 540-345-7711.

Amtrak's Northeast Regional now serves Roanoke.
